The Island of Fuerteventura is one of the islands in the group of Canary Islands. It is a Spanish island that is located in the Atlantic Ocean. This island basically lies off the coast of Africa. Tenerife is the largest island among the group of Canary Islands. Fuerteventura is the second largest after Tenerife with an area of over 1600 square kilometers. People from North Africa are believed to be the first settlers of this island. Many caves have been discovered on this island which is thought to be the homes of these early settlers. At the start of the 15th century, the French occupied this island and the city of Betancuria was named after a famous French conqueror. Extensive trading took place on the Canary Islands in the middle of the 19th century on account of these islands coming under the free trade zone. CLIMATE AND GEOGRAPHY OF GEURTEVENTURA

The island of Fuerteventura generally enjoys very pleasant weather throughout the year. On account of the sea’s presence, the temperature of the hot Sahara winds is adjusted and they do no blow directly towards this island. The temperatures during winter lie between 15 and 22 degree Celsius. On the other hand, during summer, temperatures lie between 20 and 35 degree Celsius. Rainfall is pretty average, with the maximum rainfall occurring in the month of October. The island is about 30 kilometers in width and is about 100 kilometers long.
